World Environment Day 2024 – Universal Peace Federation UK
Wednesday, 5th June | 43 Lancaster Gate, London

On Wednesday, 5th June 2024, the Universal Peace Federation UK (UPF-UK) joined the global community in commemorating World Environment Day 2024, hosting a special programme at 43 Lancaster Gate, London. The event brought together environmental activists, community leaders, youth advocates, and Ambassadors for Peace to highlight urgent environmental challenges and promote sustainable development, climate action, and ecological responsibility.

The theme of this year’s World Environment Day focused on land restoration, biodiversity, and sustainable living, resonating with UPF’s core principle of interdependence – recognising the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world. Speakers addressed pressing issues including climate change, renewable energy, deforestation, pollution reduction, and community-led green initiatives.

Participants shared inspiring examples of grassroots environmental projects in the UK and abroad, showing how local action contributes to global impact. The event also encouraged youth engagement, with young environmental leaders presenting innovative solutions to protect the planet for future generations.

As an NGO in General Consultative Status with ECOSOC at the United Nations, UPF reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those relating to the environment, clean energy, and climate resilience. The programme concluded with a call to collective responsibility – urging individuals, policymakers, and civil society to work together in building a greener, more peaceful, and sustainable world.

This collaborative initiative is brought to you by CleanCyclers and Universal Peace Federation UK with the gracious support of The Earth and I.

Our discussions encompassed aspects related to this overarching theme, emphasising that ‘land restoration is a key pillar of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, which is critical to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.’
