From Kathmandu to Belém: Reflections After COP30
Universal Peace Federation Statement Following the Conclusion of COP30
The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025, concluded with a renewed global commitment to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement and to strengthen collective action for a stable climate future.
COP30 also produced several operational commitments, including a global Call to Action on Integrated Fire Management and Wildfire Resilience signed by over 50 countries and organizations, new targets to restore degraded forest landscapes across the basin, and commitments to expand data sharing, community capacity, and early-warning systems for climate hazards, including through multi-hazard initiatives. Delegates endorsed approaches to enhance transparency and tracking in national adaptation efforts and to accelerate integrated approaches that link water security, food systems, and ecosystem resilience in line with the emerging Baku to Belém Roadmap.
COP30 also advanced several structural measures, including the strengthening of global adaptation planning and finance mechanisms, renewed commitments to operationalize finance for adaptation and resilience, and initiatives to improve monitoring, regulate commodity-driven supply chains, and coordinate forest protection policies across regions.
The Universal Peace Federation affirms that long-term stability requires responsible stewardship of the natural environment. COP30 clearly demonstrated that the stability of ecological systems is inseparable from the stability of societies and that environmental stewardship must be integrated into broader peacebuilding efforts.
UPF recalls the 2018 Kathmandu Declaration on Climate Change, adopted during the Asia Pacific Summit in Nepal, a UPF program organized in partnership with the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, which afformed the importance of the UNFCC C and the Paris Agreement, urged adaptation and mitigation in equal measure, and called for cooperation among governments, scientists, and faith-based organizations.
UPF has long valued Brazil’s leadership in global dialogue. The 2018 Latin America Summit held in São Paulo brought together hundreds of participants from more than forty nations to explore shared responsibility for peace, sustainable development, and ethical leadership.
UPF welcomes the emphasis placed at COP30 on multi-stakeholder cooperation aligned with the conference’s Action Agenda. The adopted conclusions call for concrete progress in sustainable forest management, a just transition to renewable energy, and the advancement of circular economy approaches.
As emphasized by the founders of the Universal Peace Federation, Dr. Hak Ja Han and Dr. Sun Myung Moon, humanity’s progress depends on a spirit of shared responsibility and an understanding of our interdependence beyond borders, cultures, and beliefs. Following the conclusion of COP30, the Federation encourages continued cooperation among governments, international institutions, and civil society to uphold the commitments made in Belém and to ensure that future generations inherit a stable and balanced Earth.
